Rolling Waters Kayak School
1/2 DAY SAMPLER
A true beginners' class! Get oriented on your kayaking equipment and safety. Learn about proper boat fit, sprayskirt use, wet exits, water reading basics and self-rescue. Practice belance and edge-control as well as basic paddle stroke techniques and mechanics. INTRO TO KAYAKING 1-DAY
Emphasis is on fun while learning. General course outline covers equipment orientation, principals of whitewater, general whitewater safety practices and paddling techniques. The focus is on primary paddling strokes, body mechanics and boat handling skills on a lake or calm section of water. If the class progresses well, the kayak Eskimo roll will be introduced. At the instructors’ discretion we may apply your newly acquired skills in moving water. KAYAK BASICS 2-DAY
Day 1 – Same as INTRO TO KAYAKING Day 2 – Progressive learning and technically correct paddling skills are emphasized along with water reading skills. The kayak roll is introduced along with many other techniques. You will be applying, refining and trouble shooting the previous days instruction. KAYAK FUNDAMENTALS 3-DAY
Day 1 & 2 – Same as KAYAK BASICS 2-DAY Day 3 – The learning curve for student kayakers is very high by the third day. Most people excel into the playful stage after the second day. We stress the importance of river reading, route selection, individual rescue and group rescues which are fundamental in promoting river running safety. Precise boat handling, proper timing, efficient paddle strokes, surfing and the kayak roll are key concepts of this course
We have the largest demand for beginner and intermediate clinics (described above) but all kayak clinics arranged through Rolling Waters Kayak School can be customized to individual needs. Most of our instructors are American Canoe Association (ACA) certified and have numerous years of teaching and paddling experience around the world. We not only love the work, we live it! |
